Hello Kitty Sewing Machine Reviews – Reliable AND Cute!

2018-08-27 0 By Johnni Gregory

My niece is in love with Hello Kitty and loves to sew as well. She asked her mother for a Hello Kitty sewing machine for her birthday. Her mother (my little sister) was totally against the idea of buying one because she assumed that it would be a cheap machine because it would be a machine with a cartoon character. She asked for my opinion and I was happy to help.

Are the Hello Kitty sewing machines good?

During my first research I was pleasantly surprised that they were made by Janome. Janome is known for his high quality sewing machines, but would they be different? I did a test drive with all four Hello Kitty sewing machines to find out. See below for how each sewing machine has measured.

The 4 best Hello Kitty sewing machines:

1. Janome 11706 3/4 size

The sewing machine Janome 11706 is a super cute little machine, which is equipped with eleven stitches and a four-step buttonhole. It is a beautiful green-blue color and is decorated with white flowers, Hello Kitty face and the quote “Sewing Pretty With Hello Kitty”. It’s a really pretty wearable sewing machine that would surely appreciate most Hello Kitty fans. I actually wish adult machines looked just as good as this one

Note, however, that the Janome 11706 is considered an entry-level machine and does not have as many features as you’ll find in some of the more expensive models. If you or your child have more experience, consider the other two models I am looking at below.

A very nice thing about this mini sewing machine is its size. It is a 3/4 size machine, which means it is 25% smaller than a normal sewing machine. Since it is relatively small, it can be easily taken. You can move it from room to room or travel with it very easily to a sewing class.

Due to its size you can get the impression that it is cheap and junky like most sewing machines that are made for children. Fortunately, this is not the case with this machine. If you buy this for a beginner, the Hello Kitty Janome 11706 would be an excellent choice. It’s small, easy to use, but still produces great results that will not frustrate a novice. The stitch quality is excellent and it works perfectly.

I would definitely not hesitate to get this machine if I bought it for a Hello Kitty fan and they were new to sewing. It is an excellent beginner machine.

2. Janome 13512

The Janome 13512 would be the next step in terms of features of model 11706. It comes with 15 stitches (instead of 11) and a 4-step buttonhole. It’s also a normal sized machine and comes in a very nice solid red with Hello Kitty’s cute face from the lower right corner.

After trying it out I can say that this is another excellent Janome sewing machine. It may look like a toy, but this machine is definitely not a toy. It is very sturdy, well made and perfect for a beginner or even good for someone who has a lot of sewing experience. If you love Hello Kitty and want a sewing machine with many features, but do not want to spend too much, then you will be satisfied with this machine.

The manual is also excellent. If you have a little experience, you will find that getting up and sewing does not take much time. If you’re a freshman, the manual does a good job of teaching you the basics of the machine. As soon as I saw it running I noticed that the quality of the stitch was excellent and I was very satisfied with the smoothness of the machine. The results of every project I tried were excellent.

3. Janome 15822 White

I LOVE this machine. I love the way it looks and how it sews. My younger self would absolutely love a machine that looked so cute and worked just as well as the Janome 15822 sewing machine. White with red stitching, this machine is a girl’s dream and features 22 stitches and a single button buttonhole.

If you are looking for an adult Hello Kitty machine or want something your daughter can grow into, this sewing machine is the right choice. This machine is ideal for beginners, but not just for kids. It works great and has exceeded my high expectations. It runs very smooth and quiet and produces perfect stitches every time.

After I had the chance to play around with this machine, I bought her for one of my nieces. She was absolutely enthusiastic and has completed dozens of projects with excellent results. Every time I see this machine in her room, a part of me wishes that I bought it for myself :).

4. Janome 18750 computerized unit

The 18750 is the computer-controlled model in Janome’s line of Hello Kitty sewing machines. With this machine you get 50 stitches, 3 single-step buttonholes, an automatic needle threader, a drop-in spool, a free arm, a start / stop button, an up / down button and a speed control.

The fact that this machine threads automatically has a drop-in spool and buttons that control the starting and stopping of the machine. If you plan to use this machine for most lightweight fabrics then it will do the trick. One thing is, if you work with heavy materials then you probably want to look at a more powerful machine. For most people, however, this machine would work perfectly. This large format Hello Kitty sewing machine runs quietly and does a good job with the variety of sewing options.

If you are looking for a machine that is very easy to use and you do not mind spending a little more, then this machine is just right for you.

Which Hello Kitty sewing machine should I choose?

If you are looking for a beginner sewing machine for the Hello Kitty lover in your life, you can not be wrong with any of the above machines. If you are shopping for a child, I would look at the green Janome 3/4 sewing machine. Children find it easier to work on the 3/4 machine and they are easy to carry and have simple features that are not overwhelming.

If you buy a bit older, then the Janome 15822 is a very good sewing machine for the following reasons:

  • Simple functions that are easy to use
  • durable
  • Many stitch pattern options
  • Smooth and quiet performance
  • inexpensive

I can not stress enough to avoid buying these cheap sewing machines for little kids that you see there. Yes, they are less expensive, but that comes at a price. They are badly made and you will probably end up having to buy a more expensive one after it breaks down. With a Hello Kitty sewing machine from Janome you will not have any problems. They are simple enough for a beginner to use but built for eternity. These units are perfect if you want to teach your children the basics of sewing, and if you want to learn more, just click on the link.

I hate to admit that I would spend that extra $ 100 to buy my daughter a HelloKitty machine instead of a beginner … and I feel so bad about it!
When it comes to my daughter, I become much more consumer-oriented than when I have to buy something for someone else!
Great post, Jessie! Fixed for future reference

Thanks for visiting my website Irene and for the nice comment

Did you use the computer-controlled sewing machine Janome 18750 Hello Kitty?

I have not had a chance yet to try out the computer-controlled Hello Kitty machine, but last week I borrowed one and will be adding it to this page soon. I hope to find time to see it next week. Thank you for the visit and for your question.

I finally bought the machine you got for your niece. Overstock had a 48 hour sale. It was $ 165. I tried to decide between this and the computer machine that was also on offer, but still a bit more expensive. Your great criticism has influenced me.

I’m new to sewing. Bought a vintage Necchi Sylvia, but I’m having a hard time with tension issues. It gets me pretty frustrated. I just want to sew right away.

I will look for your review. Watch out.

I have a nine-year-old daughter who does not care Hello Kitty. She has no sewing experience, but she is very interested in learning. I discuss about the Brother XL2600i or the above mentioned Janome Hello Kitty brands. What do you think would be for her?

It really depends on how much you want to spend. Most nine-year-olds would be successful on these machines. My personal preference is Janome over brother, but they are a bit more expensive. That does not mean that the Brother machines are bad, but in quality they are a small step below the Janome. I know that does not answer your question, but it gives you something to think about. Good luck!

Thank you for your reviews. You have many options to choose from. My daughter is 8 and is interested in sewing. My question is a bit silly, but when I went to Amazon’s website to see the options, I did not see any cases coming with the machine. Do you need to buy the case separately? If so, would you recommend a hard or soft case?
Many Thanks!

That’s not a silly question. The vast majority of sewing machines I’ve seen do not come with cases. Typically, you must purchase one separately, unless it is stated in the product list that it contains one. Use the tabs on the Amazon sales page to see everything that’s included. It’s probably not, but it does not hurt to check. Thanks for the visit

Thank you for your reviews. I have a 7 and 9 year old question about a sewing machine. Which of these would you recommend to children of their age? They are newcomers. Many Thanks!

No problem, I’m glad to help. Actually, you can make an argument for any of the three Hello Kitty machines. For this age, the 3/4 size 11706 is a good choice. However, if you think there is a good chance that they are still Hello Kitty fans, you may want to buy one of the more expensive ones they could grow into. Everyone is easy enough for them to use with a little instruction, so there is no worry. I hope it helps.

Does the Janome 11706 use electricity or is it running?

Hello Beverly, the 11706 uses power and does not require batteries.

Hello. Does the Janome 15822 have a finger guard? Many Thanks.

The Janome Sew Mini 125 has a slow speed and a presser foot, which reduces the risk for little fingers. I bought one because I have a very petite 5 yr. future sewer that really wants to sew and I wanted a machine that would not go faster than it can control and provide some protection as she and my grandson learn 7. Of course, adult supervision is the best safety precaution.

Hello Angela, I did not have a chance to try this out. I’ll see if I can get my hands on it and check it. Thanks for the tip. Jessie

Thanks for rating! I’m 16 years old and started sewing just a month ago. I’m just looking for a sewing machine that is good and durable. After reading your review, I thought about buying either the 13512 or 15822. Which one is better? Oh, and most of my friends used Singer (singer simple edition) and they recommended buying Singer as well, but I’d like to have a nicer machine, but at the same time a good quality … So these Hello Kitty Janome have the same quality as Singer? Thank you

Hello June, the Singer Simple Edition is a nice entry-level sewing machine, but these Hello Kitty machines are much better than the particular Singer model. The 13512 and 15822 are really nice sewing machines. The 15822 has more features, including a few more stitches and a 1-button buttonhole, so I would probably opt for this, but both would be ideal for beginners. I hope it helps. Jessie

Thank you for your prompt reply! Is 15822 easy to use and easy to set up? Can I still use it after my skills have grown? Its portable is not it? sorry for asking that many questions

No problem. I think most would find it easy to use. It comes with 22 stitches and has a heavy frame, so it’s good enough for any level of difficulty. You should not outgrow it, unless you want to get into really heavy fabrics, quilting or embroidery. For 90% of users it is a completely good machine.

Thank you for your thorough review of these machines. Two of my daughters showed interest in having their “own” sewing machines. I have two, but it’s only a matter of having your own. Well, I tried to buy one, but I was not sure about the quality. I feel a lot better after reading your reviews. We went the way to buy a cheap kid singer. It was a total frustration for my daughter and for me. It was impossible to thread and just made a simple stitch. I totally agree that a real machine is the only way!

You’re welcome, Grace! I am so glad that I could help.

I enjoyed reading these reviews. The daughters of my friends each have a Hello Kitty sewing machine and I wonder if / where I can buy spare cotton bobbins and spools.

Hello Janie, thanks for your nice comments. I’m not really sure where to find them. You may want to call Janome directly or send an e-mail to see if they can send you something or point you in the right direction.

Thank you – I will contact you regarding the result.

I used to be a truck driver … Cross Country. I was driving with a passenger and when he made “home time” I stayed in a motel …. seriously … hand sewed clothes, etc. I loved to sew, but my sewing machine was too big to pack in a truck , I finally took one that my mother gave me, which was small but still bulky. Wow … I wish I had one of those little kitty sewing machines! It would have made my motel much more productive. A good idea for the seamstress truck driver! There are many of us out there! I started in 1978, when there were only a few female drivers. For 21 years from the road and now there are many of us. Many of us also like to sew our pass time! Repairing work clothes saves a lot of money if you know how to improve. A small sewing machine like this would be such a help! Thanks for your side. It helped a lot to decide which machine I wanted to have at home.

That’s so cool to hear! I had no idea that there was something like a sewing machine truck driver
Thanks also for your kind words.

Thanks for your review! I absolutely love Hello Kitty and found this site after reading your reviews for beginner sewing machines. I will buy the Janome 15822 Hello Kitty sewing machine and I do not want to get it!

I am very happy for you and hope you like your new sewing machine!

Thanks for your article. My soon-to-be seven-year-old daughter shows interest in sewing, because I have taught myself the basics of the last few years. She is indifferent to Hello Kitty, but I want her to start on the “right foot” with as little frustration as possible in order to maintain her interest. Which one can be hit or miss, I know. I taught myself a brother cs6000i (with lots of Youtube video aids) and was fortunate enough to own a used Bernina Artista 180, which only needed a few missing parts. I am very satisfied with both machines now. To keep my own level of frustration low, I want to make the Brother “her own machine”. But do you think that choosing a machine for a child of her age would be an unwise decision?

I see no problem with your child learning to sew the Brother CS6000i. As long as you’re there to teach her the basics and help her expand her abilities, that should be fine.

I would like to consider your opinion between two machines that I use for my eleven-year-old daughter, who is interested in learning how to use a sewing machine. I’m torn between the ratings for the Janome Sew Mini 2-Stitch and the Janome Hello Kitty 11706. She’s not really a Hello Kitty fan, but does not mind if it’s her best bet. I would appreciate your opinion which sewing machine would be best for you. Please do not hesitate to recommend, because I am open to suggestions!
Thank you for taking the time to answer.

Hello Maria,
Thanks for the visit. Since she is 11 years old and would probably quickly outgrow the Mini 2 Sting, I would probably go with something else. If she is not interested in Hello Kitty then I would recommend a nice, reliable sewing machine like the Janome 2212. It is inexpensive, reliable and easy to use. I hope it helps.

That is very silly. I am 40 years old and I really want a sewing machine. I would be considered as a beginner that I have not sewn since I was a kid. Is there really a big difference in the performance of a smaller machine for a girl? I’m a very small person, so …. I do not know if that’s important. I love the idea of having Hello Kitty on my machine and the prices do not seem to be really different with the branding on it. So, basically, as an adult woman, is this size OK for me to use? I looked at the computerized machine.

Absolute. The computer-controlled version of the Janome Hello Kitty sewing machines is actually the same size as a normal machine. It is perfect for a beginner and I think you will really like it.

Hello I am a beginner channel and looking for different projects …. can sew the red sewing machine through leather or PU leather?

Hello Carmen, the red Janome Hello Kitty sewing machine is a very good entry-level machine, but it is very unlikely that she can go through leather. If you want to work with leather, you need a high performance sewing machine like the Janome HD3000.

Thanks for the review, I wish I had stumbled upon it before buying it.
My soon-to-be-8-year-old son is begging for her own sewing machine, also to get lessons, I bought the Jenome 13512 for her, but now I think I want one she can grow into. Would you recommend 15822 or the computer program 18750 for you? One of the projects she really would like to do would be a rag quilt. Would one of these devices cope with this project?

Thank you very much.

I did not use the 13512 to do a quilt before, but I do not understand why he did not make it. This model should be able to do almost anything your daughter would need. I do not think there is a reason to trade it, but that’s just my opinion.

I have long been in love with the 15822 because I have read your other reviews. Finally I got one last week was so excited to use it. The bottom thread was a loop at first, but I did it again and again. Finally it made a good stitch. But I think the runoff dial is very hard to turn because of my arthritis. The other buttons are fine, but I will return it. Are all 15822 hard to change the trick selector, or is it just me? Are there other mechanical sewing machines that are not that difficult to turn the random dials? are around the same price as Hello Kitty or less? Also, I wish I could find a mechanical machine that has the top stitch for applications – I’ve gotten enough of the old zigzag you do not need the fancy stitches for applications that usually come on less expensive machines. I may ask too much. Do you have any suggestions? Many Thanks.

I can not seem to find a whole lot of solid information / reviews on the pink 14412 model. Did you hear something about this particular model? Seems like it was sold at Target, but not positive.

I did not see much either and just saw it on the shelf, so I can not really comment on it. If I have a chance to try it, I will add it on this page.
